Glass entry doors on a Wood River Valley home

Doors

Decorative glass for contemporary living. If you want to make a great first impression, start with the entry. Imagine guests arriving at your home — or clients at your business — stunned by the elegance of your doorway.

Glass in an entry does two jobs at once

A door is the first thing a visitor touches and the last thing that has to keep the weather out. Glass in an entry has to carry both. Decorative glass brings daylight into a hallway that would otherwise be dark, while the door itself still has to seal, latch and hold up to a Wood River Valley winter.

We work on both sides of that. New doors come through the Kolbe lines we carry, and for existing doors we replace the glass unit itself, which is often the cheaper path when the door is sound but the glass has failed.

What we do with doors

Replacing the glass in a door you already have

If the door is solid and only the glass has failed or broken, the glass unit can usually be replaced while the door stays hung. That costs considerably less than a new door and avoids repainting, refitting hardware and adjusting the jamb.

Decorative and obscure glass

Patterned, textured and obscure glass lets light through an entry or a bathroom door without giving up privacy. There is a wide range of patterns, and the right one depends on how much you want to see and be seen.

Patio and sliding doors

Large sliding units take the worst of the weather and the most use. Failed seals show up as fog between the panes, and rollers and tracks wear over years of daily use.

New doors through Kolbe

For a full replacement we carry the Kolbe lines, including VistaLuxe for contemporary sightlines and the Ultra and Forgent series. Have a look at the brands we carry for the range.

Door glass and the tempering rule

Glass in a door has to be tempered. So does glass beside a door, glass close to the floor, and glass in and around a bathroom. Building code treats those as hazardous locations because they are the places a person is most likely to walk into or fall against.

That matters practically because tempered glass is made to size and cannot be cut down afterward. A pane for a door is ordered to exact dimensions, so we measure before anything is ordered rather than working from a number over the phone.
