Shower glass covers a wide range. On one end is a simple enclosure over an existing tub, using framed or semi-framed panels that keep cost down and go in cleanly. On the other is a fully custom frameless build in heavy glass, cut to your opening, with the hardware finish you choose. Most of what we do falls somewhere between the two.
Every enclosure is measured in your bathroom before anything is ordered. Shower glass is made to size and cannot be trimmed afterward, which is why we measure ourselves rather than working from numbers over the phone. Walls are rarely plumb, tile is rarely square, and the glass has to account for both.
Heavy glass with minimal hardware, so the tile and stonework stay the thing you notice. Frameless panels are thicker than framed glass because the glass itself is carrying the load, and they are always tempered. Hinges, clamps and handles come in a range of finishes.
A metal frame carries the glass, which allows thinner panels and a lower cost. A practical choice for guest baths, rentals and tub surrounds, and still available in finishes that match the rest of the room.
Two panels that pass each other on a track, which suits openings where a swinging door would collide with a vanity or toilet. When a bypass door comes off its track or the rollers wear out, that is usually a hardware repair rather than new glass.
If one panel of an existing enclosure breaks, it can often be replaced on its own rather than redoing the whole shower. Bring us the dimensions, or send a photo through the estimator and we will work out what you need.
Shower glass is required to be tempered, and for good reason. Tempered glass is heat treated so that when it does break it comes apart into small blunt pieces instead of long shards. It is the same glass used in car side windows and in doors.
One consequence of tempering is that the glass cannot be cut, drilled or notched after it leaves the factory. Every hole for a hinge or handle is made before the panel is treated. That is the real reason measurement matters so much on a shower, and why an enclosure takes longer to arrive than a plain pane of glass.
That is tempered glass behaving exactly as designed. Get the pieces cleaned up and keep the hardware, since hinges and handles can often be reused. Measure the opening if you can, or take a photo and we will go from there.
Tempered glass under tension does not stay cracked for long. A chipped edge is a panel on its way to breaking, usually without warning. Worth replacing before it goes on its own.
Often hardware rather than glass. Rollers wear, hinges loosen, and sweeps at the bottom go brittle. Those are far cheaper to sort out than a new enclosure, so it is worth having someone look before assuming the worst.
